About the archive

The K-Town Archive is a community oral history project documenting traditional healing practices in Koreatown, Los Angeles. It is a project of the Koreatown Storytelling Program at the Koreatown Youth and Community Center, in partnership with the UCLA Archive of Healing.

Using the site

You are welcome to browse, read, listen, and share links to anything published here. No account is needed for public material.

Please do not do any of the following.

• Disrupt, overload, or attempt to break the site.
• Scrape or bulk download material without asking us first.
• Present someone else's words as your own, or strip a narrator's name from their story.
• Use anything from the archive to harass, expose, or endanger a person or a community.

Who owns what

• Oral histories, photographs, recordings, and transcripts: rights remain with the narrators and the families who contributed them. They are licensed to the archive for preservation and public access.
• Site design, written descriptions, and original editorial content: owned by the Koreatown Youth and Community Center.
• Material drawn from partner collections: carries its own credit line and its own terms, shown alongside the item.

What you can do without asking

You can read, listen, and quote briefly for personal study, teaching, and non-commercial research, as long as you give credit.

Credit should name the narrator, name the K-Town Archive, and link back to the page you took it from.

What needs permission first

• Republishing a full interview or a substantial part of one.
• Any commercial use, including books, film, merchandise, and advertising.
• Reproducing photographs or audio anywhere outside this site.
• Including any material from this archive in a dataset used to train machine learning or artificial intelligence systems.

Narrator rights and takedown requests

If you are a narrator, a family member, or a community member who wants something reviewed, restricted, or removed, contact us.

We will respond, and if you ask us to, we will pause public access to the material while we review it. This right is not limited by how much time has passed.

Contributing to the archive

If you submit material through a form on this site or through the Koreatown Storytelling Program, you are confirming that you have the right to share it.

You keep your rights in what you contribute. You give us permission to include it in the archive, and you can ask to withdraw it later.

Healing content is not medical advice

The practices described in this archive are personal testimony and cultural documentation. They are not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

Nothing here should replace care from a licensed practitioner. Speak with a qualified provider before starting any treatment, particularly herbal preparations, acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, or bee venom therapy. Bee venom therapy in particular can cause severe allergic reactions.

Neither KYCC nor UCLA is responsible for decisions made on the basis of material in this archive.

Cultural and historical context

Some materials contain language, images, or descriptions that reflect the time and place they came from. They are presented as they were recorded, because changing them would change the record. Including them is documentation, not endorsement.

Links to other sites

We link to partner institutions and outside sources where it is useful. We are not responsible for the content of sites we do not run.

Accessibility

We are working to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA across this site. If something here is hard to use with a screen reader, a keyboard, or any assistive technology, tell us and we will fix it. Write to hello@ktownarchive.com.

No warranty

The archive is offered as it is. We do our best to keep it accurate and available, but we cannot promise that every page will be free of errors or that the site will never go down.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the archive grows. The date at the top will always tell you when they last changed.
